17 Research Projects were presented

Union of the Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB) organized the 2nd National Civil Engineering Symposium in collaboration with 7 universities including Cyprus International University (CIU). 

Chair of the Civil Engineering Department of CIU and Board Member of the Chamber of Cyprus Turkish Engineers  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Pekrioğlu Balkıs stated that as the Civil Engineering Department, they believe in the importance of intertwining the academy with the industry, and added they also supported the symposium thanks to the intense work carried out by the academic board members.

Balkıs stated that there were participants from  different countries across the globe in the 2nd  National Civil Engineering Symposium, said, “We presented a total of 17 research projects prepared by CIU Civil Engineering faculty members, assistants and  undergraduate/master's/doctorate students. We are proud to be the team that had the highest number of participants in the symposium.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Balkıs also talked about the presentations made by the CIU Department of Civil Engineering, saying, “Our aim is to  put theoretical knowledge into practice . The presentations focused largely on utilization of modern technology, creating space for using waste materials, and how sustainable materials and structures benefit environmental health.”

Balkıs concluded by saying that during the first two days of the symposium, the presentations were mostly focused on  civil engineering topics; on the third day modification of site foundation soils was discussed by the international participants;  
and the last day she noted that a workshop was held in cooperation with the International Association of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, TC101- and the Advanced Laboratory Experiments Technical Committee to discuss the possible liquefaction risks in our country, especially in Tuzla and Long Beach regions.
