59th “Library Week” celebrated with activities at CIU

Cyprus International University (CIU) Library Directorate organized activities between March 27th  - April 2nd    that marks  the 59th  Library Week, and  this year the theme was "Achievements of the Republic and Librarianship".

Within the scope of the Library Week, a series of academic and social activities were carried out by the CIU Library Directorate in order to spread the culture of reading, to ensure library patrons enjoy, love and acquire the habit of using the library, and last but not least to reach large masses so as to make them be aware that libraries and librarians are within easy reach.

CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri in his opening speech stated that it is of strategic importance to reach accurate and efficient information in today's world, and reminded that with the developments in technology, information can be accessed much faster compared to the past.

Nadiri stated that libraries are physical areas and vital centers that provide access to information at all times through  electronic databases and said, “Knowledge is an important power. As a university, we try to do our best to invest in resources to access information through electronic library services.”

Emin Akkor, President of the Cyprus Turkish Journalists' Union, and Serkan Güler, Member of the Supervisory Board of the Journalists' Association, took the floor in the panel titled "Access to Information" that the Faculty of Communication organized within the scope of the week.

On the third day of the “Library Week,” Prof. Dr. Fatoş Silman, Faculty Member in the Faculty of Education and Author Hasan Çakmak met with book lovers in the panel entitled "Authorship Adventure." This was followed by an event held at the Student Center called “CIU is Reading.”

On the fifth day, an event called "Gender Identity and Ensuring All Identities have Right to Access Information" was organized by CIU Psychological Counseling and Guidance Center with Director Assist. Prof. Dr. Eliz Volkan as the moderator.

“Library Week” events ended in Nicosia Büyükhan with the event called “12th Traditional Book Read” organized in collaboration with the Library Club.
