Applications for the CIU Counseling Psychology English Master’s Program has begun
Cyprus International University (CIU) Counseling Psychology English Master’s Program has begun receiving applications for the 2021-2022 Academic Year Fall Semester.
The CIU Faculty of Education, Department of Educational Sciences Chair Prof. Dr. Fatoş Silman stated that the program, which is already being taught in Turkish, has also begun education in English, and that the program has been designed for specializing in the field of psychological counseling and to train existing practitioners.
Drawing attention to the fact that by utilizing the various disciplines, students can do interdisciplinary work in the field of guidance and psychological counseling, Silman explained that following their graduation, the English language program increases their career opportunities within the international environment.
Elaborating that the program focuses upon communication in the context of interpersonal and counseling skills, Prof. Dr. Silman continued, “Additionally, we aim to develop the students to have a multicultural psychological counseling mentality”.
Giving information in relation to the employment opportunities of students who will graduate in this field, Silman informed, “Graduates can work as guidance counselors at schools, civil society institutions, and perform research on community mental health protection and development subjects, and provide guidance, education, intervention and application services”.
Speaking in relation to the courses that will be provided within the program, Prof. Dr. Silman advised, “Within the context of the course, there will be a focus upon theories such as individual psychological counseling, group psychological counseling, family counseling, cognitive behavior therapies, and behavioral disorders”.
