Awards for CIU graduate Ashvin A. Matthew at Cannes

Cyprus International University (CIU) Radio and Television 2003 graduate Ashvin A. Matthew wins 4 awards for the film “3Devi” that he directed and wrote the script for, at the Cannes 2021 competition’s “Silk Road Film Awards (SRFA)”.

The film "3Devi", which was produced by Matthew's Altered Ego Entertainment production company, brought the CIU graduate two awards in the "Best Breakthrough Producer" and "Best Breakthrough Director" categories. Again, in the same competition, the lead actress of the film Shubha Poonja won the "Best Actress" award, while the film "3Devi" won an honorable mention within the "Best Narrative Film" category.

Within the competition where 38 films from around the world were evaluated, 23 films were awarded. By winning awards across 4 different categories, CIU graduate Ashvin A. Matthew’s 3Devi film succeeded in being the most awarded film at the festival.

The film was also previously among the films that were officially selected at the "Sydney & Melbourne Lift-Off Film 2021 Festival".

Matthew's directorial debut film "3Devi", tells of 3 women’s experiences. Starring Shubha Poonja, Sandhya Lakshminarayan, and Jyothsna B. Rao, the film is about three women who escape due to being tired of the damage that has been inflicted on their lives by men.

Advising that the awards that he has won at international films festivals has given him so much pride, Ashvin A. Matthew added that like himself, the whole team are happy that the subject and the aim of the film 3Devi has been understood very well.

Explaining that throughout his life he has always been focused on the worlds of cinema and music, Matthew went on to say, “By finally bringing the 3Devi project to life, I have made my dream a reality”.

In his statement, noting that he was raised in a family with the presence of strong women, Cyprus International University graduate Ashvin A. Matthew concluded, “It was my desire to bring a film to life where there are no double standards and that reflects the strength of women”.
