Awareness Program on Violence Against Women to be held at CIU

An Awareness Program on Violence against Women will be organized by the Cyprus International University Women and Gender Studies Center (UKAMER) and Psychological Counseling and Guidance Center (PDAREM).

Providing information about the program, UKAMER President Assist. Prof. Dr. Mihrican Aylanç stated that with the "25th November International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women" violence awareness program to be organized, they wanted to take a decisive step towards drawing attention to women's problems, which is one of the missions of the center, and to produce solution-oriented policies.

Stating that they aim to develop an “awareness of violence” within society, that has displayed an increase especially during the pandemic period, by starting with university students in an effort to prevent violence, Aylanç went on to say “We aim to raise awareness on this issue by evaluating how violence is located in every area of ​​our lives.

4 Different Subject Headings

The program, which will be held at the CIU Çevik Uraz Center Conference Hall on Wednesday, 25th November, with a limited number of participants due to the measures taken within the scope of the COVID-19 outbreak, will also be broadcast online.

The 'Awareness Program on Violence Against Women' panel, where 4 different subjects will be taken to hand, will be moderated by Faculty of Education, Educational Sciences Department Chair, Prof. Dr. Fatoş Silman.

First of all, Assist. Prof. Dr. Muazzez Merve Avcıoğlu will discuss "Violence Against Women and Its Psychological Dimensions". Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şölen Külahçı will then make a presentation titled "Efforts to Protect Women Against Violence Under Quarantine Conditions: The Example of TRNC".

The third speaker of the program, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hasan Rüstemoğlu's will present "Male Violence in its Economic Dimension", to be followed by the presentation of PDRAM: "Be Aware, Make a Difference, Say Stop!" video showing, under the supervision of Expert Psychologist Çise Haşimoğulları and Expert Psychologist Huriye Koruşan.

The Violence Against Women Awareness Program will end with the last Evaluation Meeting to be held.
