Candidate Nurses Take the Professional Oath at CIU

An oath ceremony was held for students graduating from the Turkish and English Nursing Programs of the School of Health Sciences at Cyprus International University (CIU). At the ceremony attended by academics, students, and families, candidate nurses pledge to begin their professional careers with a commitment to ethical values and professional responsibility. The event concluded with a dance performance and a group photo session.
The ceremony began with speeches in which graduating students shared their thoughts and feelings. Speaking on behalf of the Turkish and English programs, the students thanked the academics who guided them throughout their education and their families who supported them at every step. They emphasized that they would practice the nursing profession with knowledge, compassion, and conscience.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Fatma Eker, Head of the Nursing Department, stated that the nursing oath is not merely a symbolic ceremony but a declaration of commitment to human life, patients’ rights, ethical principles, and professional responsibility. Emphasizing that nursing is a professional discipline requiring knowledge, skills, empathy, and respect for human dignity, Eker said: “Every patient is not merely a diagnosis or a file. Every patient is a life story, a family, a hope, and a human being.” She also noted that they take pride in educating students as nurses who think scientifically, adhere to ethical values, and contribute to public health, and she thanked families for their support.
Following the speeches, a dance performance prepared by students of the English Nursing Program was presented. Afterwards, students from both the Turkish and English Programs recited the nursing oath together, pledging to protect human life, respect patients’ rights, uphold ethical principles, and preserve the dignity of their profession throughout their careers. The ceremony concluded with a group photograph.
