CIU Continues to Strengthen Its Position in Sustainability

Cyprus International University (CIU) continues its upward trajectory in sustainability, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026. In the assessment, which is based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), CIU was placed in the 201–300 overall ranking band worldwide.

CIU ranked 22nd in the world in the Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7) category and 67th globally in the Climate Action (SDG 13) category. The university was also placed in the 101–200 band for Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), while ranking in the 201–300 band for Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

Commenting on the achievement, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asil Azimli, Secretary General of CIU, said it was gratifying to see the university’s sustainability-focused efforts recognized on international platforms. He noted that, alongside the university’s rise in the overall rankings, its 22nd place worldwide in Affordable and Clean Energy and strong performance in Climate Action demonstrate that CIU has successfully integrated sustainability into all aspects of its operations, from education and research to community engagement and institutional governance. Azimli added that the university remains firmly committed to advancing its initiatives in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing that this achievement further strengthens CIU’s international standing and global visibility.
