CIU Department of Architecture is awaiting the future architects

Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Fine Arts, Design, and Architecture, (FADA) Vice Dean and Department of Architecture Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemil Atakara, stating that the backbone of architectural schools; the studio/workshop spaces, are seen as complementary, enriching, and multiplying layers to the dynamic information flows, via the technological possibilities of the time, went on to advise, "For this reason, the campus environments in which these spaces are located, are very important."

Reminding that that CIU Campus is one of the worlds important sustainable campuses that has been placed upon the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings list, Atakara elaborated, “In this context, the CIU Campus, which is one of the worlds important sustainable campuses, provides important contributions to both the personal and occupational education of architecture students”.

Stating that the production, evaluation, and sharing of design knowledge is a phenomenon that goes beyond the limits of the studio, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atakara went on to share that, “CIU offers the opportunity of natural learning, in receiving architecture education and learning via experience, with the information and technology building that is located within the campus, as well as the student center that withholds the registrar’s office, that both have unique structures”.

Pointing out that as part of these original structures, the presence of the laboratory facilities in the process of learning by experience, contributes to education in a significant way, Atakara went on to advise, "All architecture schools should not be handled within the same 'mold', they should be differentiated and establish their own identity."

Assoc. Dr. Atakara stated, “With the assumption that the location for education is the workshop, the CIU Department of Architecture, where all other courses are handled on a workshop-centered architectural education, maintains a different learning-oriented structure, when taking into account its new and contemporary laboratories, sustainable campus understanding, wide scope of education staff who are experts in the field, and unique architectural structures”.

Drawing attention to the rankings achieved by the students and graduates of the CIU Architecture Department in a number of national and international competitions, Atakara added to his statement that as the Department of Architecture, they also have the certificate of accreditation that was given by the Architecture Accreditation Board (MIAK).
