CIU embarked on a project to create a sustainable future for girls

Center for Women’s Empowerment that functions under the umbrella of Cyprus International University (CIU) organized an event on the occasion of March 8th International Women’s Day where the life of a 22 year-old girl and the difficulties of being a girl in Afghanistan was related through a performance and a talk.

Serpil İsmihan who is in charge of the Center for Women’s Empowerment, said this center was recently inaugurated adding “our aim is to contribute to our society in becoming a society based on gender equality, and also to ensure women’s leadership in green economy, to train mothers of the future and to help form a sustainable future for our girls.”

İsmihan reported that various institutions are working to create a more balanced structure in terms of  genders in the world.  She also said they were working for a balanced society in terms of gender and also a sustainable future.

The Center will also work to strengthen advocacy among women in fields like science, mathematics, technology, and engineering. İsmihan said among the projects of the Center is to create opportunities for girls in developing countries  like Afghanistan, Republic of Congo, Nigeria and Namibia to achieve their goals in education.  

The Center started work to provide scholarships to a considerable number of girls who lost their right to education in Afghanistan.  İsmihan stated they were collaborating with non-governmental organizations (NGO) to provide opportunities for girls who have no voice in Afghanistan.
