The CIU Faculty of Communication is awaiting future communicators

Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Communication, in line with the demands of the sector, awaits the communicators of the future for its 2021-2022 Academic Year, with its application orientated courses, and structured with courses that allow the teaching and use of wide variety of computer programs.

Stating that the faculty was one of the faculties in existence during the University’s year of establishment in 1997, the CIU Faculty of Communications Dean Prof. Dr. Hikmet Seçim shared the information, “We provide degree programs within the faculties four departments. These are Journalism, Radio, Television, and Cinema, Public Relations and Advertising, and Visual Communications and Design Departments”.

Drawing attention to the fact that the language of conduct at the faculty is English, Seçim went on to state, “Additionally, we also have a master’s and doctorate program under the name of Communications and Media Studies, provided within our faculty. While our master’s program education language is in both Turkish and English, our doctorate program is provided in the English language”.

Drawing attention to the fact that 70% of the courses are carried out in laboratories, studios, and during workshops, Prof. Dr. Seçim continued, “We give importance to theoretical information being provided practically”. Adding that students need to attend two internships with a total of 20 working days completed, Seçim explained that with this practice, the students also gain the opportunity to find work at the same time.

Pointing out that the Public Relations and Advertising Department within the CIU Faculty of Communication, is the only department on the island to obtain the Communication Research Foundation’s (ILAD) accreditation certificate, Seçim stated, “Our faculty is an internationally proven faculty, with its qualified academic staff, the sufficiency of our course program in line with the needs of the sector, and the richness of the laboratories and library,”.

Highlighting that the students graduate equipped with the knowledge and skills required by the sector, Seçim concluded, “Our students work within the media applications areas of internet and social media, work within media organizations, and work at agencies as designers, producers, implementers, and managers”.
