CIU Faculty of Communication congratulatory message on Working Journalists Day

Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Communications Dean, Prof. Dr. Hikmet Seçim, speaking within the scope of 10th January Working Journalists' Day, stated the right of citizens and one of democracy’s most important principles; the right to receive news, is one of the most important and sacred acts of journalists who struggle to obtain the news, who access information under difficult conditions and share the information they obtain with the public in an honest, fair and impartial manner.

Drawing attention to the history of Working Journalists Day, Seçim elaborated that on 10th January 1961, the ‘Law No. 212’ which gives those working in the press in Turkey certain rights and legal safeguards and published in the Official Gazette, has been celebrated on this date since.

Highlighting the fact that the most ideal journalism is the one that can make the voices of people with different opinions heard, while publishing multi-directional and multi-voiced and not one-sided, Prof. Dr. Seçim also underlined that the journalism profession is a very strong and effective profession across the world.

"Journalists have a great responsibility and play an important role in raising public awareness".
Stating that journalists also have functions such as guiding the society and forming public opinion, Seçim also noted that in this context, journalists have a great responsibility and play an important role in raising public awareness.

Drawing attention to the fact that the journalism profession is one of the most difficult, dynamic and at the same time one of the most self-sacrificing professions, Faculty of Communications Dean Prof. Dr. Seçim congratulated all the journalists who fulfill their duties devotedly and devote their hearts to this profession on 10th January Working Journalists' Day.
