CIU Faculty of Health Sciences has been crowned with the SABAK Accreditation

Cyprus international University (CIU) Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, that are both located within the Faculty of Health Sciences, completed the accreditation process with success that they undertook with the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Health Sciences Programs (SABAK).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dağ, who is the Head of CIU Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, stated that that they are the first nutrition and dietetics department within the TRNC to receive a certificate of accreditation, and noted that the accreditation of their department is an extremely important piece of work in terms of the guaranteeing of high standards and increasing the quality by continuous improvement.

Noting for personnel that will work in the field of health; education, training facilities, laboratory and internship opportunities are of great importance, Dağ went on to advise, “Advanced technology laboratories, classrooms and infrastructure that are suitable for today’s conditions, and our well-equipped and competent academic staff that are independent of the reliability and validity of the education we provide makes up our department. We believe it is valuable to be accredited by an organization."

Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department Chair, Assist. Prof. Dr. Özge Özalp stated that the Accreditation Board of Health Sciences Programs (SAK) made the first general evaluation of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation undergraduate program according to the SABAK Evaluation Criterias, and further noted, “We carried out a devoted and comprehensive teamwork, and following the evaluation process, our program was entitled to receive the accreditation”.

Stating that the preparations for the accreditation began from the 2018-2019 academic year, Özalp stated that the aim for the 2020-2021 academic year is to move the education and training standards further with the accreditation received.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Özalp also provided information in relation to the departments vision, concluding, "Without losing the momentum gained, it is aimed to continue to improve the quality of education in the field of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in the future".
