CIU graduate Lawyer Berkay Özdoğu shared his experiences in his career with the prospective lawyers

Cyprus International University (CIU) Alumni Relations and Career Center organized an informative panel on “Career Planning after Graduation.”

It was an in-person event and CIU Faculty of Law 2015 Graduate Berkay Özdoğu talked about his experiences during his education in the Faculty  and what he confronted after graduation. He also informed the students about potential procedures they could encounter in work life.

He said he was registered with the Bar in Istanbul and that he served as a legal advisor to International Firms. He told the audience that borders no longer impeded the private sector services.

Lawyer Özdoğu told the students that they should not only focus on graduating but to graduate with a high Grade Point Average  adding ,“This will mostly enable you to find opportunities and put you at an advantageous position when you apply to graduate programs abroad.”

During his talk, Özdoğu emphasized the significance of internship during semester breaks and in summer. He told the students that the first thing they should do upon graduation is to apply for internship adding Law Offices mostly accept interns with prior experience.

Berkay Özdoğu said work related activities, meetings and networking were the key elements of the profession.  Exchanging business cards  even at an informal gathering is very important as this gives the person the opportunity to introduce himself.

Özdoğu told the students to meet as many people as possible because “our profession requires getting to know people who could be our potential clients and hence expanding our circle of friends helps.”

Özdoğu also gave some valuable advice on how to be a good lawyer to the prospective candidates of the legal profession: “You have to work hard, use your time wisely and make plans for the future. All these combined will help you become a very good lawyer. Surely they cannot happen all at once but will help  you reach your goals step by step.”

He also advised the students not to lose contact with the university after graduation, and  his concluding remarks were, “You will be proudly bearing the university badge after graduation.”
