CIU published a message in relation to Journalists and Press Day

Faculty of Communications Dean Prof. Dr. Hikmet Seçim, reminding that 24th July is the anniversary of the date that censorship was abolished, stated that this date is celebrated as ‘Journalists and Press Day’, and congratulated this day of press workers.

Explaining that during the time of the Ottoman Empire, newspapers were scrutinized by censorship Officers before they could be published, Seçim advised that with the entry of the Second Constitutional Monarchy on 24th July 1908, censorship had been abolished, and with this, it was decided to celebrate 24th July as "Journalists and Press Day" in the following years.

Reminding that the Turkish Journalists' Association was founded in 1946, and upon the suggestion of journalist Falih Rıfkı Atay, 24th July was announced as “Journalists and Press Day”, Prof. Dr. Seçim stated that as well as journalists having important functions such as informing the public and making them aware, they also have other functions such as directing the society and in the formation of public opinion.

Underlining that journalism is one of the occupations that is the hardest and most dynamic, while at the same time requiring the most devotion, CIU Faculty of Communications Dean, Prof. Dr. Hikmet Seçim congratulated the 24th July Journalists and Press Day of all the journalists and press workers, who most of the time meet their duties with great difficulties and sacrifices, and who have devoted their hearts to their occupation.
