CIU's Sustainable Environmental Policies Top the List of Times Higher Education Ranking
Great Britain centered Times Higher Education released the 2022 Impact Rankings of World Universities. Cyprus International University (CIU), based on the evaluations made by UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, ranked 111th in the world and 1st on the island of Cyprus in terms of the sustainability of academic campus areas. CIU continued the successful pattern it has demonstrated and as such is again listed in the 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Factor World Rankings List.
CIU Vice President and Sustainable Campus Office Director Prof. Dr. Serkan Serkan Abbasoğlu gave information about the ranking system saying the 17 items specified in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals evaluate studies made on world issues, and their impact on research, administration, social support and level of education as well as on societal, environmental and social development. Professor Abbasoğlu added it was the first time CIU participated and ranked within the 201-300 band in the field of “Cost Effective and Clean Energy” world rankings, and ranked with in the 601-800 band in “Clinical and Health” world rankings. In addition to gaining these positions in world rankings, Abbasoğlu said, CIU ranked 1st in the field of “Cost Effective and Clean Energy” and 3rd in the field of “Clinical and Health” in North Cyprus. He said their success in this organization, which they participated in for the first time following UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, was not by mere luck. He said this was thanks to the well knit teamwork and thanked Assist. Prof. Dr. Umar Özgünalp and all the other team members.
Prof. Dr. Abbasoğlu pointed out that since 2009, they have been carrying out research on and made strides in matters related to Renewable Energy and the Environment. He also said by investing in solar energy and energy efficiency, CIU is not only moving toward achieving sustainability and carbon neutrality but also creating application and research areas for the students.
Thanks to the experience they have gained this year, they will climb up the ladder in the Times Higher Education World Rankings List, said Abbasoğlu, adding “Our aim is to make the educational, research and community service activities, conducted within the scope of CIU’s vision for quality and continuous development, be noticed and recorded in the evaluations made by external bodies and to continue to represent our country internationally in the best possible way.”
