From Design to Implementation: A Closer Look at the Process
At the seminar titled “Architects and Engineers: Roles and Expectations,” organized within Cyprus International University (CIU) as part of the collaboration between civil engineering and architecture disciplines was examined from multiple perspectives. The seminar featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Mosaberpanah as the speaker, who highlighted key challenges encountered in sustainable construction and implementation processes, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary harmony.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Mosaberpanah addressed the differences between academic knowledge and field experience, noting that professional life after graduation differs significantly from theoretical education. He pointed out that inconsistencies between planning and execution are common in large-scale projects, stressing that technical drawings often fail to align with on-site realities. He also emphasized that a lack of communication between disciplines negatively impacts project efficiency.
Furthermore, he underlined the complementary nature of architecture and engineering, stating: “While architecture focuses on creativity, user experience, and aesthetics, engineering is grounded in safety, durability, and feasibility. If these two disciplines do not work in harmony, projects may either fail to move into the implementation phase or encounter serious problems.”
Touching on the concept of sustainability, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Mosaberpanah emphasized that it should not remain merely a theoretical approach but must be placed at the core of both design and implementation processes. The event, aligned with CIU’s sustainability-focused academic vision, concluded with strong participation and ended with a group photo session.
