Famous personalities of education meet at CIU

CIU hosted the 9th ERPA International Education Congress 
The 9th International Congress organized by Educational Researches and Publications Associations (ERPA) was hosted by the Faculty of Education of Cyprus International University (CIU). 

The opening took place at CIU Çevik Uraz Conference Hall where CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, ERPA General Coordinator and Balıkesir University Dean of Faculty of Sport Sciences Prof. Dr. Fikret Soyer, CIU Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Yalın and invited speaker Prof. Dr. Servet Özdemir delivered the opening speeches. 

CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Nadiri talked about the establishment of the University saying “This year we are celebrating our 25th anniversary. CIU is a young, dynamic university with a high potential. Among the institutions of tertiary education in the TRNC,  CIU is accepted  to be one of the firmly established universities considering the infrastructure and the academic programs offered.   Nadiri expressed his happiness in hosting the 9th ERPA International Education Congress and wished everyone a successful congress. 

International ERPA General Coordinator Prof. Dr. Fikret Soyer also stated at the opening that ERPA was established in Sakarya in 2012 as an association working to benefit the society, and since 2014 they have been organizing international congresses. Noting that they held international congresses in many different countries, Soyer said, “We held our first congress in Istanbul. Later, we  organized congresses  in other locations such as Athens, Sarajevo and Budapest, and now we are holding our 9th  Congress hosted by CIU.”

CIU Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Yalın, in his speech at the opening, expressed his pleasure to host such a scientific meeting and wished "this congress will pave the way for new projects and new collaborations to develop."

Prof. Dr. Servet Özdemir ,who was the  invited speaker, in his presentation entitled "Leader Teacher," stated that different perspectives are needed in the field of education, that inquiry-based learning should replace rote learning, and that the concept of diversity should be given priority.  He also said the student should feel independent, and that  leadership cannot develop where independence is not allowed. Leadership is a point of view, it is a matter of communication.

Following the opening speeches, the congress continued with the sessions where 127 papers would be presented.
