Gastronomic Workshop for Future Chefs

CIU organized a workshop for Students at Famagusta Vocational Highschool of Commerce

Cyprus International University (CIU), School of Tourism and Hotel Management organized a workshop for the students at Famagusta Vocational Highschool of Commerce. The educational workshop was conducted by instructor Esat Kastambollu from the CIU School of Tourism and Hotel Management and also students from the Gastronomy Department.

Famagusta Commerce Highschool Students showed great interest in the workshop; theoretical information was given about dishes and cooking, current trends in the field, cooking techniques and basic sauces; then this was followed by a session where students had the chance to put theory into practice.

Kastambollu stated it was within the scope of the workshop to give training to the barista and food competition candidates who will participate in the inter-high school talent competition. He stated that students were given information about the prominent issues that should be considered in the competition. Students competing in the Barista category were taught technical things like the intricacies in preparing espresso, the time it takes to prepare the milk for latte; those who were to compete in the cooking category were informed about the issues they had to pay attention to in the basket competition.

Kastambollu stated that in order to exemplify, they made some practical applications after the technical explanations. And also shared with the students the subtleties of plate presentation which turns into a visual feast at the level of professional cooks.

Kastambollu pointed out that the one-day workshop was very productive, and added that he and the Gastronomy Department students of the CIU School of Tourism and Hotel Management, were ready to contribute again on different subjects if needed.
