Inter-Vocational Skills Competition at CIU
Cyprus International University (CIU) hosted the “Beauty and Hair Care Knowledge and Skills Competition” and the “Agricultural Technologies Knowledge and Skills Competition” for vocational high schools, organized in cooperation with the Department of Vocational Technical Education at the Ministry of National Education. The event, held on the CIU campus, brought together vocational high school students from different regions to showcase their knowledge and skills.
As part of the event, students from Atatürk Vocational High School, Güzelyurt Vocational High School, Karpaz Vocational High School, Famagusta Vocational High School, and Rauf Raif Denktaş Vocational High School participated in the competitions. Four schools competed in the field of beauty and hair care, while students from Güzelyurt Vocational High School and Rauf Raif Denktaş Vocational High School demonstrated their performance in the field of agricultural technologies. The competitions were evaluated by expert jury members.
Within the program, speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr. Gülşen Hocanın, Director of the Department of Vocational Technical Education at the Ministry of National Education; Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova, Vice Rector of CIU; Prof. Dr. Erbuğ Çelebi, Rector of CIU; and Nazım Çavuşoğlu, Minister of National Education.
In the speeches, emphasis was placed on strengthening vocational and technical education, improving students’ practical skills, and aligning educational processes with sector needs. Prof. Dr. Gülşen Hocanın highlighted the importance of supporting students in both knowledge and skills, while Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova emphasized the necessity of transforming knowledge into practice.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Erbuğ Çelebi stated: “Extending these competitions beyond university students to include vocational high school students increases young people’s motivation and enables them to demonstrate their competencies at an early stage. We aim to continue and expand such organizations.”
