The launch of the first special issue within international indexes that is specific to the TRNC, was held at CIU

The Worldwide Hospitality and Tourism Themes special issue, that is edited by Cyprus International University (CIU) Tourism Management Department Academic Staff Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hale Özgit, and co-edited by Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren, has been published.

The special issue, where tourism planners and policymakers examine the issues relating to overcoming the obstacles in the development of sustainable tourism within Northern Cyprus, carries the characteristic of being the first special issue within the TRNC, to be included in international indexes.

Including studies that point to the need for sustainable development, the special issue focuses upon sustainable development practices within small island countries and, more specifically, the economic, political, sociocultural, and environmental sustainability issues facing Northern Cyprus.

Within the special issue, special issue editor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgit and co-editor Prof. Dr. Öztüren stipulated that when it comes to the development of sustainable tourism within the TRNC, one of the most important obstacles is the lack of cooperation between stakeholders.

The special issue, which has 10 pieces of academic studies within, has given space to joint studies between academicians and sector representatives.

The launch of the special issue was held with the attendance of Prof. Dr. Richard Tear, who is the editor of Emerald Publishing’s Worldwide Hospitality and Tourism Themes Journal.

The second special issue that will be prepared again specifically about the TRNC, saw problem determination discussions and a focus group meeting held at the launch, with the participation of sector representatives, mayors, academics, and politicians.

It was stated that another important characteristic of the activity in question is that in the development of the TRNC Tourism Sector, university-sector collaborations will come together and perform joint academic studies.
