Message from CIU on the World Engineers' Day
Dr. Fuat Uyguroğlu, a faculty member of the Faculty of Engineering at Cyprus International University, said "Let's shape the future together" and celebrated World Engineering Day on December 5. "Engineering is the silent yet determined force that shapes the progress of humanity. From the bridges that hold cities up, to life-saving technologies; from the small devices that connect us to each other, to the creative solutions found for seemingly insurmountable problems, engineers have their signature on every step," Uyguroğlu emphasized, noting that we are on the threshold of a completely different era today.
Uyguroğlu pointed out that artificial intelligence has expanded the horizons of engineering, saying, "This allows for quickly bringing imagined ideas to life and stepping into bolder projects. What used to be the power of only large laboratories can now be accessed by a single curious mind. This gives engineers the opportunity to direct more of their energy towards exploration, design, and innovation." He added that this new era is opening exciting doors for curious individuals, stating, "Creating impressive work on your own and simultaneously touching the new frontiers of humanity—renewable energy, space travel, resilient cities, next-generation technologies... Today, small teams are able to accomplish tasks that were once undertaken by large institutions; difficult problems are being solved through persistent work."
Emphasizing that societies that value engineering move forward more strongly into the future, he said, "Because engineers not only build systems; they give life to thoughts and redefine the boundaries of what is possible." On this World Engineers' Day, Uyguroğlu concluded, "We celebrate all the engineers who shape tomorrow and invite everyone who trusts in their imagination to join this journey."
