"Neydi Olacağı" Team Gathered with CIU Student

The team members of the "Neydi Olacağı" program which the society follows with admiration due to their  digital multimedia broadcasting,  gathered  with the students of Cyprus International University (CIU).since their show included satirical references to the social and cultural structure of Turkish Cypriots.

In the event called "A Talk on Humor" organized by the CIU Library Directorate and Library Club, " Neydi Olacağı " team director Mehmet Ekin Vaiz, cast members Pervin Yemen, Ali Çomunoğlu and the art director of the team Mine Keten discussed the importance of helping raise awareness among young people on digital humor, content and production-consumption habits. 

Mehmet Ekin Vaiz, who gave information about the social and cultural structure, the economic situation in the country and the formation processes of his short films published on the social media platform, mentioned the importance of reality in the preparation of the scripts and plays, adding, "First of all, there is no humor that is detached from the truth, we definitely build it on individual and social truths while preparing a screenplay." 

Stating that they were far behind in terms of technical knowledge when they first started shooting short films, Vaiz said, "You may not have technical equipment, you may not have a camera, but if the story is sincere at its core, you can somehow establish that connection with the audience."

Pervin Yemen, on the other hand, stated in her speech that they mostly set out from real life stories when writing screenplays, and that the films reflect the cultural life in Cyprus. Talking about the process of her inclusion in the team, Yemen stated that she joined the team in 2018, after the video depicting the rise in toothpaste and beef luncheon meat prices  due to the economic crisis in the TRNC.

Noting that humor and truth are always intertwined, Ali Çomunoğlu said, "Although we shoot a humorous scene, the scene we edit can happen to us in real life because we identify ourselves with the characters and act accordingly in front of the camera.”
