The opening ceremony of the CIU Arch-Ex 2021 Student Projects Exhibition was held

The ‘Arch-Ex 2021’ student project exhibition, organized by the Cyprus International University (CIU), Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture (FADA), Department of Architecture, within the framework of the World Architecture Day, has been opened.

The exhibition, where CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, FADA Dean Prof. Dr. Nezih Ayıran and FADA Vice Dean and Department of Architecture Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemil Atakara, each made an opening speech, has open for art lovers to come and visit up until the 8th October, at the İsmet Vehit Güney Exhibition Hall.

Expressing his satisfaction in coming together with the future architects at the “Student Project Exhibition”, Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri went on to say, “Displayed here are the valuable efforts of our students, however, while being developed to this point, the directive by our academicians have been important. I thank them all”.

Stating that the studies beginning from the 2021-2022 academic year will be kept and recorded within a catalog, Nadiri added that these studies will be a source of inspiration for our future students.

Drawing attention to the ‘Masterplan’ project, Prof. Dr. Nadiri reminded, “Our project, with its sensitivity to the environment and its student-orientated approach, has been seen fit to receive 2 separate first prizes”.

In his speech during the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nezih Ayıran noted that they had halted their events for a period of time due to the pandemic that affected the entire world, however, that they would continue with them increasingly from now on.

Thanking all of those who contributed to the exhibition, Ayıran continued, “First of all, I would like to thank our Rector and the İsmet Vehit Güney Exhibition Hall officials. I would also like to thank our Department of Architecture Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemil Atakara for his active efforts, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ehsan Reza, all of my colleagues, and all of our students, for their efforts.

In the speech made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atakara, he drew attention to the fact that the CIU FADA Department of Architecture utilizes the opportunities and the potential of the geography it is within, and went on to say, “We aim to raise our students in leading with thinking, learning, and acting architecturally, with the vision to serve the local and international community, with the awareness of their natural, historical, and cultural values.

Stating that they wish to train professionals who are learning-oriented, who value creation in a free atmosphere, based on interpretation, specific, creative, who are sensitive to social, cultural, and environmental contexts, open to development and who are responsible, Atakara concluded that all the projects that they develop each semester with their students will be documented in the student projects catalog.
