The outbreak of the corona virus reminded us once again of the importance of the healthcare system and healthcare workers

Cyprus International University (CIU) School of Health Sciences Academic Staff, Assist. Prof. Dr. Neşegül Orçun, speaking within the scope of the 7th April World Health Day, stated that this day is an opportunity to focus on the issue of basic public health worldwide.

Stating that a healthy life is a right that every person acquires at birth and that they gain due to being a human, Orçun noted that the concept of health cannot be changed with or measured by any other concept in our life.

Stating that healthcare workers provide a very important service within the field of health to the society, in serving human health with their knowledge, skills, and efforts, Assist. Prof. Dr. Orçun said, "In particular, the corona virus epidemic has reminded us once again how important the healthcare system and healthcare professionals are in our lives".

Reminding that the corona virus epidemic is the biggest epidemic in the last century that has been fought by the whole world at the same, Orçun went on to state, “This disease is not only a threat to health, it has also affected all areas of our lives. All countries have continued to struggle as much as their means can allow, especially with relation to the capacity of their health systems, from the very first days of the epidemic”.

Stating that Covid-19 poses an unprecedented level of risk, exposing the whole society in general, and healthcare workers and their families in particular to this risk, Orçun noted that there is a continuous rise in the number of healthcare professionals who became ill and lost their lives due to this epidemic across the world.

The year 2021 has been declared as the "International Year of Healthcare Professionals"
Stating that the World Health Organization has declared the year of 2021 across the world as the "International Year of Healthcare Professionals", due to their frontline battle against Covid-19, Orçun reminded, "While healthcare professionals fulfill their duties and responsibilities, individuals who make up the society also have important responsibilities. If we want to leave the future with a healthy society, the individual must first protect their own health”.

Stating that it is possible for us to win the struggle for a healthier world together in solidarity, Assist. Prof. Dr. Orçun concluded, “Our health is our most valuable asset. You must value your health for a brighter future”.
