Registration is now open for Mechatronics Engineering

Mechatronics Engineering is one of the most popular engineering fields in our present day and age, and as of 2023-2024 Academic Year Fall Semester, the department’s educational and training activities will be carried out in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Cyprus International University (CIU).

The Chairperson of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuşaf reminded that the department with an English medium instruction was first approved by the Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation and Coordination Board (YODAK), and added that the department was approved by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) this year, and as of the new term, students from Northern Cyprus, Turkey and third countries are eligible to register.

Kuşaf said that Mechatronics Engineering is a new branch in engineering,  and added, “With the rapid development of technology, industrial automation has made great progress along with the mechanical, electronics, computer hardware and computer software sectors. In this context, smart machines and robots began to be used. With the development of these new technologies, Mechatronics Engineering was born as a new branch of engineering.” Technological evaluations predict that robots will be used in many areas, and that they will become part of  our daily lives. Kuşaf stated that mechatronics engineering is considered among the professions of the future.

Speaking about the department’s curriculum, Kuşaf stated that the necessary content was selected in the program, especially in the fields of industrial automation, smart machines, robotic systems, automotive and smart materials, so that students will be fully equipped thanks to the education they will receive.

Kuşaf emphasized the significance of  applications in this field and noted that in addition to the theoretical courses included in the program, there are laboratory hours. Noting that the Faculty of Engineering has laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art devices, Kuşaf said,  "We have control and robot laboratories, digital electronics laboratories, circuit and electronics laboratories, machinery and production laboratories, electrical machines and power electronics laboratories, computer laboratories and software application laboratories."

Stating that all students who are interested in mechanical, electronic and control systems can apply to the program, and also added that students can also improve themselves in industrial robotics design and manufacturing.

In his speech, Kuşaf also talked about employment areas and said, “Our graduates can work in the fields of automotive industry, industrial automation, health (medicine), agriculture, robot systems, and mining. All industrial companies need engineers trained in this field.”
