Seminar on Crime Prevention for Young People Held
At a seminar titled “Crime Prevention Methods for Young People,” organized by Cyprus International University (CIU), students were informed about legal regulations in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), public safety, and ways to protect themselves from crime. The event, attended by officials from the Police General Directorate, emphasized the importance of raising young people’s awareness of potential risks and familiarizing them with the laws of the country in which they live.
The seminar addressed public order and safety, peer bullying, personal security, and crimes encountered in digital environments. Students were advised to keep records of the IMEI numbers of their mobile phones and other electronic devices, exercise caution when renting accommodation and making online purchases, remain vigilant against suspicious payment requests, and avoid sharing personal information with others. Attention was also drawn to the risks associated with the unauthorized sharing of private images. Participants were reminded that, if they witnessed a criminal incident, they should prioritize their personal safety and cooperate with the relevant authorities.
During the event, officials from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate gave a presentation providing information about the physical and psychological effects of drugs, the risk of addiction, and the legal consequences of drug-related crimes. The risks of turning to drugs due to peer pressure and curiosity were particularly highlighted, and students were urged not to accept food or drinks from strangers, not to touch suspicious substances, and to report such situations to the authorities. The seminar concluded after students' questions were answered.
