Seminar on Technology Integration in Teaching Held
A seminar titled “Technology Integration in Teaching: Pedagogical and Effective Use of Technology in the Classroom” was organized by the Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Cyprus International University. The seminar was delivered by Instructor Şahin Coşkun from the School of Applied Sciences, focusing on the effective and conscious pedagogical use of technology in teaching processes.
During the seminar, it was emphasized that student profiles have significantly changed in parallel with the digital transformation of educational environments. It was noted that today’s students are a generation raised with digital technologies, and that their tendencies—such as rapid access to information, use of multiple digital platforms, and preference for visual content—directly influence learning processes. Therefore, it was highlighted that instructors should take students’ learning habits into account when planning their courses.
Coşkun stated that the questions of “what to teach, to whom to teach, and how to teach” are decisive in planning the teaching process, emphasizing that technology in education should be considered merely as a tool. He pointed out that today’s students can access information quickly, which has transformed the role of instructors—from being mere transmitters of knowledge to becoming guides who facilitate the learning process and support active student participation.
The seminar also addressed the importance of visual and interactive content in preparing course materials. It was noted that relying solely on text-based presentations should not be considered true technology integration, while the use of visuals, videos, and interactive applications can increase students’ engagement in lessons. Additionally, it was stated that gamification methods can enhance student participation and make assessment and evaluation processes more interactive.
As part of the seminar, participants were introduced to digital tools, web-based applications, and AI-supported technologies that can be used in education, along with examples of how these tools can be integrated into course planning. The seminar aims to raise awareness about the use of technology in education and contribute to the development of innovative approaches in teaching processes.
