The Faculty of Health Sciences of CIU is hosting a symposium on the “Recent Multidisciplinary Approaches in Geriatric Medicine”.

The Faculty of Health Sciences of Cyprus International University (CIU) is hosting a symposium on the “Recent Multidisciplinary Approaches in Geriatric Medicine”.

The symposium will be at the CIU Çevik Uraz Conference Hall on March 24 Thursday. The interdisciplinary multi-dimensional evaluation of elderly (geriatric) individuals, the treatment and care of the elderly via multi-disciplinary teamwork, and the approaches to healthy aging alongside care and rehabilitation of the elderly will be discussed in the symposium.

Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Salih Angın reiterated that the increase in education and income levels, changes in dietary habits, and control of infectious diseases are factors that extend life expectancy in the 21st century. The phenomenon of aging, which is more apparent in developed countries, is now gaining significance in developing countries as well.

Since the elderly population is on the rise in our country, diversification of health services provided for the elderly should also be increased.

Prof. Angın stated that in order to raise awareness about old age and geriatric health, March 18-24th is celebrated as the “Respect for the Elderly Week” and a variety of activities are held in this respect during this week.

Angın said there will be 35 speakers from different disciplines like Medicine, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing, Social Work, and Occupational Therapy presenting in the symposium on “Recent Multidisciplinary Approaches in Geriatric Medicine.” Angın also said this scientific symposium will be the first to be held in person after the pandemic.

The Honorary Chair of the Conference will be Anatomist Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Sel who has recently completed her 50 years in the profession and also has been serving as a faculty member in the Faculty of Health Sciences for a considerable time.
