TRNC High School Knowledge and Skills Competition hosted by CIU

The "TRNC High School Knowledge and Skills Competition" organized in collaboration with the TRNC Ministry of National Education and Hair Care and Beauty Services Program of Cyprus International University (CIU) showcased colorful images.

At the event hosted by CIU, students from Atatürk Vocational Highschool, Gazimağusa Vocational Highschool, Karpaz Vocational Highschool, and Güzelyurt Vocational Highschool competed for the awards in the best hairstyle and makeup categories.

The TRNC Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, Director of the Vocational Technical Education Department of the Ministry of National Education Gülşen Hocanın, CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, CIU Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toycan and academics were present at the competition.

Gülşen Hocanın, Director of the Vocational Technical Education Department of the TRNC Ministry of National Education, delivered an opening speech and noted that the aim of the competition was to showcase the skills and competencies that the students learned to the panels and participants.

Noting that it was the first time that they held a competition before an audience, Hocanın said, “Our aim is to turn the competition into a feast. Maybe we will organize our future events in a feast format, and not as a competition."

CIU Hair Care and Beauty Services Program Manager Dr. Vali Gjinali, on the other hand, reminded that they have been hosting similar events for years and expressed their satisfaction with such organizations. Expressing that they will continue to organize such events in the future, Gjinali said, "We have organized great competitions and have cherished very good memories, and this year we are proudly hosting another one."

Dr. Gjinali, after sharing information about the Hair Care and Beauty Services Program in his speech, also referred to the Cosmetology Technician Program, which will start recruiting students for the upcoming fall semester and will be the first of its kind program to be offered in the TRNC and Turkey.

After the opening speeches, the competing students presented their skills on Show hair and make-up. CIU Hair Care and Beauty Services Program Director Dr. Vali Gjinali, CIU Instructor Fatma Öksüz, Mahmut Kanber, Nerime Kanber, Ayşe Özkan, and Sezin Remzi are among the leading experts in the TRNC hairdressing and beauty industry evaluated the works of the competing students.
