A very meaningful donation from CIU Theater Club

Cyprus International University (CIU) Coordinating Office of the Social Activities and Clubs affiliate Theater Club donated all the proceedings of the play “Reservoir Poodles” to the Cyprus Turkish Orthopedic Disability Association (TCODA) in hopes of supporting the  physically handicapped individuals’  participation in society.

Theater Club is one of the most active clubs on campus and has recently celebrated its 23rd year. Every year they perform plays based on themes like “social responsibility,”  “awareness” and “sensitivity to the social environment.” Actually, these are in line with the mission of the club. They performed the play “Reservoir Poodles” on December 25th, 2021 and with its proceedings, they purchased two wheelchairs which they donated to two handicapped individuals.

At the meeting with the CIU Theater Club members, Günay Kibrit, the President of the Cyprus Turkish Orthopedic Disability Association, congratulated the students for working on projects to raise social awareness, and expressed his wish that such activities would increase in the future.

Kibrit said the Association acted in line with their mission of “Providing the handicapped individuals equal opportunity across the country.” He added CIU Theater Club has been  instrumental in accomplishing their mission by donating the proceedings of the play they performed to the Association.

To conclude, Kibrit said, “Such an approach not only increases the social responsibility awareness of the youth but also helps the receivers of the wheelchairs to move freely in public.”He finally expressed his most heartfelt thanks to all those who took part in accomplishing this project.
