An important step toward collaboration on joint projects was taken between Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture and Famagusta Municipality.

The visit, during which potential joint projects focusing on urban development and the design of living spaces during and after disasters were discussed, was attended by Dean Prof. Dr. Cemil Atakara, Vice Dean and Head of the Department of Architecture Assist. Prof. Dr. Sertaç İlter, and Interior Architecture Department Faculty Member Dr. Bedia Tekbıyık Tekin. The CIU delegation was received by Famagusta Mayor Süleyman Uluçay at his office.

During the meeting, projects planned within the scope of the cooperation protocol signed between Famagusta Municipality and the CIU Rectorate, as well as prospective projects to be carried out specifically with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, were discussed. Particular emphasis was placed on academic and applied studies themed around living and design during and after disasters, and a collaborative action plan was developed to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions.

Mayor Süleyman Uluçay highlighted the importance of collaboration with universities for the development and urban aesthetics of Famagusta, expressing his satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation with CIU.
“Utilizing academic knowledge and expertise while planning the future of Famagusta is a significant asset for us,” he stated.
