Art evolves alongside Digital World
Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture faculty member Prof. Dr. Vüsal Bağırov stated that art began with the creation of the universe and human beings, and noted that the stages the artist has gone through and the roles attributed to art in today's society have changed according to the requirements of the age.
Without art, aesthetic aspects of humans are incomplete. Bağırov said that individuals reflect the intensity of their emotions to the environment by painting or playing an instrument.
Prof. Dr. Bağırov pointed out that art has important effects on the new generation as it serves as a medium for reflecting their own feelings, and said, “Thanks to art, our children can look at life and the future positively. Considering all these, April 15 World Art Day bears a lot of importance.”
Bağırov said that in 1948, thanks to an initiative led by 48 associations from 19 countries, an agency was set up within the body of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). He reminded that the International Association of Art (IAA/AIAP), a non-governmental organization working in official partnership with UNESCO, was established in 1954 with the participation of 18 member states and 22 countries with observer status.
“World Art Day is of great importance as it shows the value of art and artists to the next generation.”
Noting that Bedri Baykam was also involved in the establishment of the association, Bağırov pointed out that Baykam became a member of the association in 1990 and later on he became the elected President of the Association. "Bedri Baykam attended the AIAP General Assembly on April 15th, 2011 which coincided with Leonardo da Vinci's birthday. He proposed to celebrate April 15 as 'World Art Day' and his proposal was accepted. This Day was first celebrated in Turkey in 2012 and has been observed ever since."
Prof. Dr. Bağırov noted that on April 15 World Art Day has been officially celebrated all over the world since 2020. In conclusion, Bağırov said that the day is of great importance in terms of showing the value of art and artists to future generations.
