Civil Engineering students of Cyprus International University (CIU) had the opportunity to meet with Gürkan Yağcıoğlu, the Chairman of the Chamber of Turkish Cypriot Civil Engineers (CTCCE) and Assist. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Ekinci, the Secretary General of the Chamber.

The bilingual event was held at CIU Çevik Uraz conference hall so as to make it possible for all CIU’s civil engineering students to attend and to comprehend the ongoing talks.

In his speech, Chairman Yağcıoğlu stated that civil engineering is not just about building design, but that those in this field serve humanity and so for that matter,  it is important to pay attention to life and the environment.

Yağcıoğlu pointed out that civil engineering education does not come to end  after  graduation but  that learning continues throughout life; and that it is necessary for a person, whether it be  in the academic environment or  in the engineering environment, to improve oneself and follow the current developments.

Yağcıoğlu explained the duties and responsibilities of the Chamber of Civil Engineers to the students in detail and advised them not to forget their social responsibilities as well as their engineering background.

In his speech, Ekinci, Secretary General of CTCCE (KTIMO), shared with the students the developments in construction in the country dating from the oldest settlements to the present in detail.

Emphasizing that developments always continue in the field of construction as in every other field, Ekinci advised the students that it should be their aim to constantly update themselves.

Ekinci reminded that up-to-date software programs have started to be used in the field parallel to technological developments and said, "You should think about the future while designing your projects."

Ekinci stated  in his speech that the CTCCE (KTIMO) building and the laboratories are always open to students, and added they can always visit CTCCE (KTIMO) and benefit from its resources whenever they wish.
