Future Engineers Meet at Robotics Competition

The CIU Robotics Competition, organized by the Faculty of Engineering at Cyprus International University (CIU), was held with high student participation. The event stood out as an important platform where students were able to apply the knowledge they had gained throughout their education while showcasing their technical skills and innovative approaches.
Coordinated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Parvaneh Sargon, the competition brought together students who designed and developed robots to successfully complete various tasks. Projects focusing on robot design, software development, and system integration provided participants with the opportunity to demonstrate their engineering knowledge through practical applications.
The competition was organized in two categories: Mini Sumo Robot and Line Follower Robot. Throughout the day, students demonstrated both their technical competence and teamwork skills, while spectators witnessed exciting and highly competitive matches. In the Line Follower Robot category, Michee Kibuta and Elie Kayumba won first place. In the Mini Sumo Robot category, Yağmur Er, Arda Kahraman, and Fatmatül Taş took first place.
Dr. Parvaneh Sargon stated that robotics activities play a significant role in helping students develop solutions to engineering problems, strengthen their analytical thinking abilities, and gain hands-on learning experience. She also emphasized that such events provide valuable opportunities for students to enhance their teamwork, project development, and professional preparation skills.
At the end of the competition, the winning students and the academic staff involved in organizing the event were congratulated. Dr. Sargon noted that similar activities supporting students’ development through practical education would continue in the coming years, highlighting the importance of complementing theoretical knowledge with practical application in engineering education.
