A new publication from CIU on Gender Issues

Gender Issues focusing on women – Interdisciplinary Approaches is published

In addition to the research activities and services to the society, Cyprus International University (CIU) continues to publish a variety of  scientific publications related to local and global issues.

Cyprus International University Women and Gender Studies Research Center (WGSRC) has recently published Gender Issues Focusing on Women – Interdisciplinary Approaches.

The Director of WGSRC, Assist. Prof. Dr. Mihrican Aylanc said their aim in publishing this work was to analyze and evaluate women’s issues and gender roles in societies from an interdisciplinary perspective and to produce solutions to the problems they encounter using the outcome of scientific research.

Assist. Prof. Dr.  Aylanc indicated that there were  altogether 26 Chapter contributions: 14 Academics from Turkey and 12 Academics from the TRNC.  The visual on the cover was designed by one of the leading woman painters in the country, Nilgun Guney.

According to Aylanc, the book not only questions the human rights of women and  gender roles in the society but also examines the issues that have been continuing from past to present. Dr. Aylanc summed the book up by saying, “We are hoping the articles and the compilations published in this book will contribute to  the steps to be taken to improve the status of women in the society.”

There are also articles in the book that dwell on the exceptional values and power of women, their struggles and creativity.  Aylanc added, “We are hoping the book will give moral power to all the women.”

The book chapters included studies like the activities of the powerful women leaders who helped shape the press in Cyprus, how  the business life of women was affected negatively by the pandemic and how to cope with these difficulties, revisiting and questioning the roles women in Cypriot Turkish Literature played in conveying  culture, as well as the need to change expressions used in the Turkish Cypriot  dialect  mostly in  patriarchal rhetoric which are markers of gender inequality.

In addition to these, articles on daily topics and issues related directly to the society like how immigration on a global level affects the life of women, how the anxieties  encountered by women reflect on  online advising,  and last but least how not being able make  their voices be heard in media  are also included.
