Pharmacists’ responsibility in public health is indisputable
Prof. Dr. Yasemin Yazan, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacology of Cyprus International University (CIU) said pharmacists act as advisers when it comes to drugs and health products, and hence they bear a lot of responsibility.
It was on May 14th 1939 that scientific pharmaceutical education began, and hence this day has been celebrated as World Pharmacists Day ever since. Dr. Yazan reiterated that pharmacists take responsibility at every stage from the production to the delivery of the drug to the patient.
Dr. Yazan said pharmacists keep themselves updated since they hold a significant role in maintaining and improving public health.
On the occasion of World Pharmacists Day, Yazan said health/profession/drug rights are again on the agenda, and thanks to this rendering quality health services is set as the objective.
Dean Yazan pointed out that in line with this aim, faculties of pharmacology and pharmacy organizations have been cooperating up until now, and added that, “This profession is not a commercial one, but an indispensable service provider to maintain public health.”
Dr. Yazan also marked the fact that even during the Covid-19 pandemic, pharmacists worked selflessly, thus showing how significant a role they play in maintaining public health.
Prof. Dr. Yazan concluded by saying the pharmaceutical industry is dynamic and innovative and that “the pharmacist, who closely monitors the developments in the field of pharmaceuticals and health products, is an important professional who strives to make the society reach the best in terms of health by using not only his/her knowledge but also his/her unique expertise.”
