The elementary years are known as the "magic years of life" because it is observed that this magical period forms the basis of future educational life. One of the greatest occupational satisfaction sources for educators is contributing to this period and the developments. To be a classroom teacher in primary education institutions means to be "everything" after the parents of the children you are teaching. There can even be a time during which a discussion between the parents and the child ends with the child’s phrase: “You don’t know better than our teacher". While class teachers with such high values of influence are equipped with up-to-date, scientific and artistic knowledge as they are taught in the Department of Elementary Teacher Education in CIU; they strive to blend the ways of helping graduates start their professional lives in the most contemporary way. As a result of the efforts made during the four-year undergraduate education, the candidate teachers start their "magic of life" by being selected by the private and public institutions to disseminate the strengths of Atatürk's principles and revolutions.
The Department makes use of the student-centered strategies, methods and techniques as well as the appropriate tools and equipment at the utmost level. Instead of adopting traditional teaching methods, an approach through which teacher and students work in active collaboration in a democratic environment is adopted. A strong teacher should be equipped with three qualifications: professional teaching skills; subject-matter knowledge and general culture. Using the privilege of being a "campus university" like CIU and all the facilities offered by the Faculty of Education; we strive for our teacher candidates to be equipped with these three qualifications. We hope that our candidate teachers who graduate from the Department of Elementary Teacher Education will be taught to have the professional teaching skills, have subject-matter knowledge, and benefit from their general culture knowledge to be effective teachers and pioneers of social change.
