Climate Action
Cyprus International University uses low carbon energy sources. Throughout the years since the Solar PV Panel Plant was established, the system consistently provided around 30% of the energy requirement of the whole campus with clean energy. This drastically decreases the carbon emissions of the campus buildings and with the addition of the biogas plant, the percentage of renewable and clean energy provided to the whole campus will be 100%, mitigating all carbon emissions of the electricity needs of the campus.
Currently, the university mitigates 1,500 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year due to installed PV power plant capacity. Details can be seen below.

Cyprus International University (CIU) recognizes that the climate crisis amplifies the risk of severe weather events, water scarcity, and other disasters that can lead to population displacement and humanitarian crises. We pledge our resources, expertise, and campus infrastructure to work in partnership with government bodies, international agencies, and local communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate-related disasters.
