About the Department

The Law Department provides a computer-assisted education program, implemented by faculty members, as specialists in the field of contemporary, active and interactive education, knowledge and equipment, at an international level. The program offers both theoretical and practical courses, as well as national and international conferences and symposiums. The students have the opportunity to specialize in the field of international law, Cypriot law or Turkish law. The program also offers a number of elective courses for professional development and specialization. The purpose of the Faculty of Law is to equip students with specialized knowledge and experience in the specific field of law. A crucial part of these goals within this framework, is to provide students with the most up-to-date information; improve their writing, expressing and reasoning skills; and apply abstract rules to concrete events, to solve their specific problems.

Education Opportunities

The students are prepared to practice law as a result of the practical courses on Supreme Court and Council of State decisions. All students have the opportunity to conduct research on lectures and practical work by using computers with internet connection. Assignments are given to help students gain research and presentation skills. Moot Court practices are also offered. Collaboration agreements are made for students to monitor the hearings in local courts and have internship opportunities. Internship collaborations are made with international organizations for those students who are competent in a foreign language and have high academic success. National /international panels and conferences are also organized to increase students’ knowledge and skills.

Career Areas

Faculty of Law graduates can work in the following areas: as a Legal and prosecution lawyer; legal counseling in national and international companies; and legal counseling in the private and public sectors. Other career areas include: instructor employment opportunities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; inspectors in the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Ministry of Finance; duties in various international organizations such as the Governor's Office, security directorate, Bureaucracy NATO, the Council of Europe, the United Nations Organization and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In this course, the general principles of Constitutional Law are examined. In the first part of the course, the basic concepts of constitutional law, the scope of the constitution and types of constitutions are discussed. This is followed by the classification of political parties and the factors affecting their formation. This course engages with ancient Roman Law primarily explaining the distinction between public and private laws. In the first part of the course, sources of Roman Law, concepts of right and lawsuit, of person and legal capacity, legal action and tort, and historical development of Roman procedural and enforcement law are discussed. In the second part of the course, private judgments and non-systemic judgments, debtor's responsibilities, and contract systems are discussed. Later on, the law of property is analyzed with a focus on basic concepts of acquiring property, and of possession. In the last part of the course, the effects of Roman Law on the shaping of today's Turkish Law will be examined.

In this course, the concept of law is analyzed from a holistic perspective. This course focuses on a particular branch of Family Law branch of Civil Law. In the first part of the course, issues related to the validity and breaking up of marriage, the ensuing problems of compensation and return of gifts, rights and obligations of the spouses in marriage, and the legal capacity of the spouses are examined. In the second part of the course, divorce proceedings, legal effects of divorce, property issues, and the custodial issues regarding children are examined. ENG 112 is the continuation of ENG 111. The course integrates the four main skills at a higher elementary level for students. Also, by reading higher level paragraphs and texts, students infere the meaning of new words by using their existing vocabulary. Through productive skills, which are speaking and writing, students identify different register and use the given language in an appropriate way. In the first part, concept of private international law, its content, scope and basic concepts of conflict of laws are examined. An in-depth analysis of subjective and objective rules of goodwill are also conducted. In the second part, concept, content and sources of international procedural law are explained, and the jurisdiction of Turkish courts and judicial immunity are discussed. In the last part, the element of alienation according to Turkish law, application of foreign law and general doctrines in citizenship law, general principles in Turkish citizenship law, acquisition and loss of citizenship, proof of citizenship and judicial path are discussed.

This course focuses on the basic principles of Criminal Procedure Law. In the first part, the course covers principles of protection of human rights, preparation of and the form of the trial and issues of evidence. In the second part, the application of Procedure Rules, barriers to trial, criminal trial procedures, subjects of trial, participants in trial, protection measures, investigation, prosecution, reconciliation and confiscation, ordinary and extraordinary routes of law and trial expenses are examined. This course focuses on individual labor law, collective labor law and trade union law. In the first part historical development of labor law, sources, jobs, persons and places for it to be applied, basic concepts, labor contract, obligations of parties to labor contract, termination of labor contract and consequences of termination and labour litigation are examined. The course, then explains basic and individual labor law concepts such as employee, employer, workplace. In the second part, students acquire detailed information about formation, termination and types of individual employment contract; status of employer and employee and their rights, duties and obligations arising from this contract. Finally, the course provides a basis for supervision of business life and criminal sanctions.

In the first part of this course, sources of enforcement law, enforcement organization, complaints, enforcement fees and expenses, parties to enforcement proceedings, enforcement without notice, general route of foreclosure will be examined. This course introduces basic principles of Criminal Procedure Law aimed at investigating and finding material truth, rules and comparisons of criminal law proceedings that respect human rights. In the first part, stages of investigation, ordinary remedies, objections and appeal issues are discussed. Additionally, issues such as extraordinary remedies, correction of decisions, retrial, objection of the Attorney General of the Supreme Court and written order are addressed. In the second part, personal litigation is discussed. In the final part, claims, defences and prosecution carried out in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code are discussed to find out if a crime has been committed; and if so, by whom it has been committed and what its sanctions are.

In this course, follow-up through foreclosure for exchange notes, evacuation of leased real estate, execution of declaration and way to cash out the pledge, precautionary foreclosure concepts are discussed. Following these, bankruptcy law, concordat, restructuring of capital companies and cooperatives through reconciliation, cases for cancellation and general principles of enforcement crimes are covered. In the second part, basics and stages related to follow-up routes through execution and bankruptcy are introduced and students are expected to evaluate the relevant issues. In the third part, the application of the pledge application rule and its exceptions, are evaluated. Finally, the course covers the evacuation of the leased immovables through execution without judgment and other legal remedies in practice through this procedure.
