Department of Educational Sciences was established in 2016 with the Higher Education Council (YÖK)’s decision of "Restructuring Education Faculties”. The general aim of our department is to offer our prospective teachers a high quality education with an interdisciplinary approach and train them to become researchers, problem-solvers and analytic thinkers. For this reason, our students are provided with the opportunity to attend conferences, conduct scientific research, participate in and organize in-class and out-of-class activities. The Department of Educational Sciences also provides in-service teachers and education specialists the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies in the fields of Curriculum Development and Instruction; Educational Administration and Planning; and Guidance and Psychological Counseling. These programs aim to train teachers and education specialists who will contribute to the development of TRNC and wish to take part in international competitions with entrepreneurial, creative, interdisciplinary studies and projects.
The Department of Educational Sciences employs two full-time professors, an associate professor, an assistant professor and three instructors. All of the classrooms are equipped with smart boards. We have a guidance and psychological laboratory where students can conduct individual or group counseling. This laboratory is specially designed for lecture courses such as individual counseling, group counseling and psychological tests. The laboratory is divided into two sections with a mirror and is equipped with suitable fixture. In addition, there is a drama room for our students to perform drama and creativity activities.
Students who graduate from the Guidance and Psychological Counseling Department can work as psychological counselors in various institutions such as psychological counseling centers, public and private schools both in Turkey and TRNC, guidance and research centers, kindergartens, and institutions under the body of the Ministry of Justice, special education and rehabilitation centers, psychological counseling centers of universities, and human resources departments of companies. Students who wish to pursue an academic career can complete their masters and doctoral degrees in this field so that they can become academic staff in universities and open their own offices if they wish. Graduates of the Curriculum Development and Instruction Master’s program can work in various institutions as education specialists, academic coordinators and teachers in private and public schools. Graduates who have completed the Graduate Program in Educational Administration and Planning can be administrators and inspectors in the schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and other educational institutions.
